About Sr. Bea Hernandez, OSF (click to expand)
Sr. Bea, a vowed Franciscan for nearly 60 years, is a retired physician with over 25 years of experience in Hematology and Oncology. She founded the Hematology/Oncology Treatment Center at La Porte Hospital in Indiana, spearheading essential initiatives such as the hospital’s Cancer Registry, tumor board conferences, and its certification as a Comprehensive Cancer Center by the American College of Surgeons.
A passionate advocate for public health and social justice, Sr. Bea has served on the La Porte County Board of Health Citizen’s Advisory Committee and the Human Rights Commission and co-chaired the La Porte County Task Force for Peace. Her lifelong dedication to service and advocacy includes over four decades of involvement with the US JPIC team, focusing on nuclear disarmament, peacemaking, justice for Central America, and global AIDS awareness and support.
