Two Sisters are standing near the entrance of Loretto Academy in Woodlawn. Sisters Clement (Mary) Brohman and Anita (Catherine) Tapsfield seem to be enjoying the Chicago scenery! Both sisters are Canadian and were teaching in nearby grade schools. Sister Clement taught at St. Cyril’s and Sister Anita taught at St. Adrian’s. Sr. Anita spent the rest of her life in the Chicago area while Sister Clement returned to Canada when her assignment ended. Before the years of border control, Loretto Sisters often accepted teaching assignments on the other side of the border and often traveled across the border for vacation and celebrations. All that was needed to cross the border was a photo ID. You could cross from one country to another using your drivers’ license. Simpler times!!
