Advent

A Christmas Prayer

"Oh Christ, Light of all lights, Star of all stars,
dweller within these human homes of ours,
open our wandering minds and hesitant hearts
so your endless goodness radiates more completely in us.

We welcome you again and again, with gratitude and trust,
not only in this Christmas season of remembrance and celebration,
but all through the new year that awaits us."
[Rupp, Joyce.  Welcome the Light.  Creative Communications for Parishes, 2015]

Thank you for joining us

THIRD FRIDAY OF ADVENT When I was a child, Advent was my favorite time of the year. Halloween was up there, a very close second, but Advent lasted much longer and I loved it. I loved the weather change, the carols, the colors, the bright lights, the candy and treats (my mother made great eggnog!), choosing the tree and decorating it wa...

THIRD THURSDAY of ADVENT Peace on earth… Each Christmas, this phrase makes me pause…especially this year. As December drew near, I started asking myself if I could find peace in my little office at work much less experience it in the world at large? The marketing department where I work had become increasingly po...

THIRD WEDNESDAY of ADVENT “The angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home.” Joseph was asleep when the message came, and it probably didn’t make a whole lot of sense at first, but he knew, he knew, that this new way was right. ...

THIRD TUESDAY of ADVENT When I was twelve years old and about to make my confirmation, my grandmother gave me a book called The Lives of the Saints.   I learned about the sacrifices these men and women made to bring God’s love and light into the world.  While I was in awe of these saints I was also overwhelmed.&nbs...

THIRD MONDAY of ADVENT Reflecting on Monday the third week of Advent I recall a grace. After attending our Assembly meeting recently, I remember saying to one of the Sisters, “I believe God was speaking through all of us today.” A Sister responded, “Thank you for saying so.” Then she smiled and added, “Isn...
