Sr. Mary Howard, Director of Mary Ward Center, was born and raised in Chicago. She entered the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary (IBVM) in 1954 and graduated from DePaul University and Purdue University. After 50 years of teaching grade school in California she returned to focus on vocation work for the IBVM Community. Sr Mary Howard joined the Mary Ward Center in 2001 and has been busy teaching ESL, Computer and assisting immigrants with Citizenship preparation. In her free time, Sr. Mary Howard enjoys reading, crossword puzzles and spending time with friends.

Sr. Lorraine is a proud Chicago native! She is a Notre Dame graduate and brings to the MWC a wealth of experience. Sr. Lorraine taught 7th and 8th grade for 18 years and then served as Pastoral Associate at the Cathedral of St. Raymond in Joliet for 21 years. She has been teaching ESL at the MWC since 2003. She holds a special affection for good friends, family and the City of Chicago!

Born and raised in South Chicago, Marianne graduated from DePaul University and has worked in the community for the past 24 years. Her past experience as a Community School Resource Coordinator at Metropolitan Family Services and as the Director of Religious Education at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church is a blessing for the Mary Ward Center. She has 2 children, Roberta and Joseph and enjoys time with family, reading, nature and gardening. She joined Mary Ward Center in 2014 as the Administrator and also teaches ESL.

Concepción was born in Guanajuato, Mexico and came to the United States in 1995. She began at Mary Ward Center in 2011 as an ESL student. Shortly after beginning class, she became part of the Mary Ward Center staff and she is currently enrolled in college courses. Most likely you will speak with Concepción when you telephone the Center. She has 3 children, Selena, Jose and Melanie, and enjoys reading, writing, shopping and gardening.

Eileen is a lifetime resident of the Southside of Chicago. She joined the MWC staff in 2012 but first met the IBVM sisters when she was a student at Loretto High School. Eileen taught English for 35 years in the Chicago Public High Schools. Today, she leads students in conversation classes and teaches English and computer classes. She has 2 children and 3 grandchildren. Eileen is an avid reader and enjoys attending plays and concerts.

Amy graduated from UIC with a BA in Elementary Education in 2004. She became interested in teaching ESL after being assigned a student from China during her student teaching. The courage and motivation she witnessed first hand inspired her to volunteer at MWC. Amy has been volunteering for over 10 years and joined the staff in 2017.
